Graduate Fellow
Mabon Foo (he/him/his) is a graduate student at the University of British Columbia who is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in English Literature. His research centers around new forms of media, in particular phenomenological, queer and postcolonial approaches to videogame studies. He is interested in looking at how video games both adhere to and trouble notions of gender, race, culture and disability, given that the player actively engages with a game rather than observing passively. He is currently writing a Master’s thesis that looks at the games Don’t Starve and They Are Billions through the lens of existential phenomenology. Comics, animation, film and television are other genres that he looks forward to exploring.
