Who We Are
The Pop Culture Cluster serves as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary hub for the evaluation of popular media and its impacts in higher education and beyond and seeks to identify the role of popular culture in illuminating and catalyzing social and political change. In particular. We collaborate with units across campus to foster discourse on popular media through academic and public-facing programming and community-engaged, arts-based research.
The Pop Culture Cluster is funded by the UBC Comics Studies Cluster in the Public Humanities Hub and the Pop Culture Catalysts: Popular Media for Social Change Research Excellence Cluster.
Land Acknowledgement
UBC-Vancouver is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people. The land it is situated on has always been a place of learning for the Musqueam, who for millennia have passed on their culture, history, and traditions from one generation to the next on this site. An important part of the public-facing work of the UBC Comics Studies Cluster is collaborating with First Nations and members of the local and global Indigenous community to create comic art that honours Indigenous storytelling traditions and serves the goals of BC’s Indigenous peoples.
