Michael Yin

Graduate Fellow

Hello! I’m a 4th-year PhD candidate in Computer Science at UBC, researching human–computer interaction with a focus on reflective technologies, digital communication, and play. My work explores how systems can support meaning-making and engagement through modalities such as journaling, performance, and gaming. I’m especially interested in how people express, reflect, and transform themselves, and how those emotional, experiential moments can be translated into design. I care deeply about building technologies that hold space for feeling, introspection, and creativity. Outside of research, I enjoy running, reading, and playing visual novels 🙂 You can find more about me here: https://www.mikeyin.xyz/
