Last year, the Pop Culture Cluster organized our inaugural Global Horror Film Festival with the UBC Film Society at the Norm. It featured a week of screenings of multilingual horror films from around the world, some of which were integrated into courses and student club programming.
The UBC Global Horror Film Festival, scheduled for October 27-31, 2025, aims to celebrate and explore the rich diversity of horror cinema from around the world, showcasing films in various languages from various global contexts.
As we approach the fall semester, we’re looking for partners to support our horror film programming this year – either by hosting a film, integrating one of our films in your class, and/or promoting our programming in your courses.
Specifically, we are seeking to partner with five departments, language programs, and/or faculty members across UBC to co-sponsor films. Each partner will have the opportunity to:
- Select a film to be screened in its original language with English subtitles.
- Provide a short introduction to the film, highlighting its cultural and cinematic significance.
- Integrate the film into one or more of their courses to enhance student engagement and learning.
UBC-wide participation enriches the festival and provides a unique, interdisciplinary learning experience for UBC students. We believe this kind of collaboration highlights the importance of global cinema and cultural diversity in film & media studies, as well as in popular culture more broadly.
