Dakota Brown

Graduate Fellow

Dakota Brown (she/her) is pursuing an MA in Children’s Literature at the University of British Columbia. She holds a BS.Ed. in Secondary Education and a BA in English from the University of Idaho. Dakota previously taught high school in her hometown before moving to begin a graduate program. Her research centers on how young adults shape moral value systems and social-emotional development through interactions with media. Dakota is especially interested in the impact of narratives on ethical reasoning. She is currently writing her thesis, which is a case study of performative heroics found in the animated series My Hero Academia, focused on creating pedagogical, pop culture content for secondary ELA classrooms.
